WHO WE ARE

Water Warriors YYC was branched out in the spring of 2022 to fill the gap for Calgary's unhoused community's access to water, food, clothing and supplies. We were inspired by the original Water Warriors YEG and wanted to bring the same spirit to the streets of Calgary.

We are still starting out, and have just one wagon to haul our supplies around. We have teamed up with other local outreach groups to collaborate on mutual aid initiatives.

We are able to supply water, snacks, clothing, harm reduction supplies and conversations to our community members. We have partnered up with a stationary outreach group called The Table YYC and after meeting them at their spot, we go mobile to reach more people, we go to where we are needed, reaching folks that have mobility constraints and those who may be struggling with addiction. We never just drop off our supplies and go. We make connections, we listen, we help as we are able. We advocate and offer supports as needed even if it takes us a while, we are always there with our listening ears.

We are an inclusive organization. Some of our volunteers have lived experience with addiction/being unhoused and they want to give back to the community. We do not promote any religion. We are trauma informed, de-escalation ready and truth and reconciliation aware.

We are a registered charity with the Alberta government and are currently working on our federal charity status. We are also in the process of training our Harm Reduction "Poisoning Response Team" which will be able to assist with Naloxone administration and harm reduction supply distribution.
